This says it all. I still employ much of this advice with Mrs Jones. When she hears Led Zeppelin Four....

She turns 78 today.

This video is NOT Blondie playing one of their hit songs, but when she volunteered to talk to a bunch of kids. It's quite revealing. She doesn't do the narcissistic Pop Star Thing at all:

She is awesome. And I love these clips of famous people talking to kids. Why they're always quite revealing. One rocks star who is famous for what a jerk he is did one of these, and got hey at least he's nice to kids points.

Digging up that 1980 video triggered the YouTube Spybot to suggest another of the same type for me this morning.

This one is from 1979, where Debbie and bandmate/boyfriend Chris Stein chat with a BBC TV talk show guy before kicking off a concert tour of England.

What strikes you immediately is how natural, laid-back, and matter-of-fact everyone WAS in those days. Also, how insanely charming and unassuming Debbie was when the spotlights, amplifiers, and her "Blondie" stage persona were switched off.

They were laid back, the interviewer was a snarky snot though.

I am not overly familiar with Debbie Harry, but I did know a girl in college who was nicknamed Hairy Debbie, an appelation I only found out about way too late, unfortunately.

I always figured seeing how far a radio or TV interviewer could push guests back in those days was a big part of why people tuned in to such shows. It was a "couldn't lose" situation. Get their "prey" to respond by firing back or walking out only meant more attention for the show, and created suspense (of a sort) when they couldn't manage it.

Little doubt that established stars with PR teams and etc. knew the game well.

Let's do a crossover. Debbie Harry is in an independent movie called "Pipe Dreams" which takes place in a pipe factory, I think Dr. Grabow.
it's a short

Yup, it's the Grabow factory.

First I've ever heard of it.

Gonna track it down, the me, is. :)

Fun stuff. Bill called his PipeWorld friends when the cameras showed up, looks like.
