I have a few tobaccos I am smoking regularly. I'm only about three years with the pipe so still a newbie, and I enjoy variety. I currently have Dunhill 965, Escudo, a couple mild aromatic house blends from my local tobacconist and my Classic Burley Kake. I really enjoy this tobacco. Due to what seems to me to be a very fine cut, I have to be careful not to pack as tight as my other blends. I bought this for my cobs, as I had read that burley was a cob's best friend. I sometimes use a balsa filter to prevent fine bits from drawing up. When I get this packed right and sip it slowly, I really get the cocoa and rum notes, though I haven't yet detected the anise. My family loves the room note too. The first time I smoked it, my wife stopped and remarked how much she liked it. In my humble opinion, I would recommend this blend. It has never bitten me, seems easy to light and keep lit and tastes great.
Cheers,

Bill

Funny you should say that, I thought the exact same thing about this blend. Here was my problem was this blend: Considering that Russ uses Kentucky and Tennessee Burley as the base tobaccos, I expected it to have more tobacco flavor than it did. It almost wasnt aromatic enough to be an aromatic enough, and it didnt have enough natural taste to be a straight tobacco. It was a decent smoke for me, but there are others that I reach for more than this. Glad to hear that you enjoyed it though, I do agree that the room note is better than most, and like you, I pack this in a cob since all my aromatics go in cobs anyway.

Classic Burley Kake is one of my favorite smokes. I consider it an aromatic, but that doesn't bother me at all even though I mostly smoke latakia and Va/Per blends (good aros are hard to come by, but when I run into one I tend to really enjoy it). Anyhow, the flavorings are spot-on for me, especially the anise. I also like the fact that I can smoke it all day without any tongue bite.

Had this gifted to me from a fellow pipester and it had a bit of age on it. Loaded in a cob it was a very enjoyable smoke with a nice room note to boot! Definately worth looking into for those of us who are willing.

I really enjoy Classic Burley Kake! I suppose if you are looking to be wowed this may not be the tobacco for that. It is an easy going and relaxing smoke for when that's what your looking for.

I'm smoking this blend right now. The only time I pick up a cocoa flavor is during a relight. No bite, and I really puffed hard a few times to see. Great flavor, room note, packs well, lights and stays lit easily.
Great stuff! Thanks Russ!

I had a bowl of this last night for the first time in a while and it was excellent as always. Yes, I have a stash put away for future smoking. It has the most unusual cut of any burley I've ever had before, where it comes in thick flakes and crumbles easily and very fine in texture. It's a very satisfying burley IMO, and like others have said, you have to pack it very lightly.
