Grinders?

Does anyone use tobacco grinders? Pros, cons and all thoughts would be helpful.

Never used one, sorry. I've seen them marketed as "tobacco" grinders but have always understood they were for a different kind of smoke. I could be wrong.

I don't think anyone uses them for tobacco. I've only seen them in gas stations and head shops.

I am also skeptical that they are ever used for tobacco unless one is trying to create tobacco dust...

i bought one from amazon for $4 no shipping not expecting much out of it. after having it for about a week i think it was well worth the money. It splits apart tobacco without breaking the ribbons at all no dust like it may create in other dryer smoking substances. I find it the most useful for hardened flakes like Dark Star. I wondered myself if anyone else had ever used one.

I thought this was going to be a discussion on bench grinders for applying wax and shinning stems. Oops! I never heard of tobacco grinders.

I remember someone using a grinder to make snuff. I can't remember who, and I can't find it either. Somewhere on the forum their thread describes the process.

Jason I've heard it used for the same thing, snuff production. Having quite a bit of experience with various grinders :wink: I think you'd want to look for one with large spaces between the teeth so it is separating the leaf instead of pulverizing it. Still I don't really see much use for one when your hands will do a quicker better job of getting the consistency you want from a rubbe out flake or crumble cake.

I suppose if you wanted to roll a pipe tobacco blunt it could come in handy lol

In my line of work, I run across a lot of these grinders. :wink: I did actually clean one up last year and try it on some tobacco, but it ground too fine for good smoking. I don't remember what kind of tobacco, only that it was chunky.
I reckon a man could modify one for a certain size, but seems like a lot of trouble.

I have used a grinder for certain tobacco's and find it works well. I have also read that some people use a coffee bean grinder.

I personally would never use a grinder for my tobacco, it will make it burn very hot.
The grinder was originally intended for Peruvian Marching Powder.
