Up here we have a lot of black bears, We hunt them to keep them managable, they're delicious in the spring and fatty and gross in the fall, I wouldn't want to eat city bears from California though, they probably sustain themselves by sucking the shit out of diapers in landfills and dumpsters.

Bears, Black Bears in particular, go where the food is. In my neighborhood the bears, seriously, know when garbage pick-up days are. The cans go out to the end of the driveway and bears show up. It's a veritable smorgasbord for them.

It's the mountain lions that you have to watch out for.
They, like the Black Bear, enjoy a house pet now and then. We have a sow and two cubs enjoying our neighborhood so rabbit hutches aren't safe. A Brown resided close by a couple of years ago. Some neighbors inadvertanly baited them with their family of Llamas. Living in the city or the hinterlands can be interesting when it comes to wildlife.

I used to visit my brother in Rancho Santa Fe years ago. There were a couple of empty lots across the street. Rabbits scream when a mountain lion grabs 'em. I always thought they were more or less mute.

The place pointed to on the map is right next to a national forest. What did they expect?

Reminds me one time I was looking at reviews of this campground that's located next to a river. One person gave it 1/5 stars because there were mosquitoes. It's a campsite, in the woods, next to a river...

Also, if, I were a bear, I don't think I'd be afraid of random humans that didn't have guns regardless. I'd just be all "gimmie that picnic basket, you little b----. What you going to do about it?" Then I'd give them the finger to show them how long my claws are while snarling.

If the bears go where the food is, maybe they'll show up at the city's $44,000.00 per tent homeless camp complete with catering services.

Los Angeles officials prioritized speed over cost while building a new city-sanction tent village for homeless people in East Hollywood, reportedly shelling out $44,000 for each individual tent — about the price of a new Tesla Model Y.

All told, it cost about $4 million to put up fencing, bathrooms, and staffing facilities for the village. Catering services and 24-7 staffing cost an additional $3 million per year, the Los Angeles Times reported.

I'm sure it will get resolved swiftly by Lord Newsom, just like the tent city/homeless situation.
Thank goodness for our noble lords and ladies. What an amazing state to live in puffy

Nature will find a way. In the 20 years we lived in a city near DC we saw a 3-fold increase in whitetail deer, at least that much in squirrels, chipmunks, and rabbits; then came fox, coyote, and all sorts of raptors. Of course, vultures/buzzards came along to clean things up. Our neighbor here in NC gave up growing watermelons in their garden since most of the crop was consumed by bears.
