got me a new convert

I just got my college life long drinking buddy into smoking the pipe. I gave him a straight briar i picked up at a flea market (he owes me a couple draughts now) and he is hooked. what is your advice for a newbie?

Congratulations on bringing Brian into the brotherhood Brendan.
Basic advise is to practice packing the tobacco so it's not too loose or too tight, smoke slow and don't buy a lot of one type of tobacco right away as your tastes will evolve. This week's favorite new tobacco may hold no interest for you 2 weeks down the road.
The other good advice would be to join this site, and post questions as they arise.
