Glengarry Flake by Gawith and Hoggarth

I came across one of many jars of Glengarry Flake tucked away n my cellar and thought, yes, this is a great blend. Why not open another jar? I am so glad I did. It is as I remember. Pleasant, mild, easy to smoke, and enjoyable in terms of taste. No bite, no harshness, just simple tobacco joy.

Many smokers enjoy this blend, and I never read anything negative about it. Gawith and Hoggarth's line up in tobaccos is always refreshing and in their catalog there are many many gems. This is certainly one of them. Next time you see it up for sale, consider this little gem. If you enjoy Esoterica tobaccos, but are frustrated at how difficult they are to get, this blend might scratch that itch when you want something different and you want it to be enjoyable.

The grassy/hay-like citrusy sweet Virginia also has light earth and wood, some bread and sugar. The Lakeland topping is floral, but not strong at all; mostly a background presence. The various toppings are sweet, and lightly sublimate the tobacco. They mostly hold on to the finish. The strength and nic-hit is a step past the center of mild to medium. The taste is a notch past that level. Won't bite, or get harsh, and has a few small rough notes. The flake is very easy to break apart to suit your preference. Burns cool and clean at a moderate pace with a rather consistent, subtle flavor from top to bottom. Requires a few relights, and leaves little moisture in the bowl. Has a short lived, pleasant after taste, and room note. It can be an all day smoke. Two and a half stars.

What jim said. Very slight and only noticeable if you are looking for it. I have kept enough around so I always have it as a change up. It’s just a pleasant tobacco. I’d like to think of it as a sleeper that largely goes unnoticed.

I felt that way about the 500gr box of Conniston Cut Plug that I bought several years ago. Just a hint of Lakeland, equivalent to smoking a non-Lakeland in a ghosted pipe. Quite enjoyable!

It's delicious. But I prefer Kendal Flake and Bobs Sq Cut. Pure Lakeland in all it's glory!

If you mean Granny panties, no. Honey, whiskey, some other spices. The floral element is well in the background.

More of a savory kitchen spice vibe than the Coniston/Bosun.
I enjoy Glengarry quite a bit but it’s one I’ve got to be in the mood for.

My preferences of GH are the stronger ropes and flakes. I still have quite a bit of the Bright and Burley, which I sometimes forget is GH, but all of the other floral stuff, I just never developed a taste for.
