I want to get a nice meerschaum for my Dad and am willing to spend in the 300 to 500 range if needed. Smokingpipes has an IMP with silver band, 2.34 oz, 6.65 in long. They also have several Barling models, the smooth weighs 1.4 oz, 6.11 inches long. The rustic Barling is $120 less than the smooth. I assume I'm paying a premium for the Barling name, but would one have better quality design and air flow over the other? Is the IMP at 2.3 oz and 6.6 in too heavy to hold in your mouth? Which one would you want as a gift? I know he likes Meerschaums and straight stems, but that's all the intel I have. Thanks!

I only know what i like, one thing is get something with approximately the same bowl size as his current go to pipes.
In that price range, you can buy him a new pipe, which would probably be better for a present than in the state pay because it’ll be all him.
There are many excellent carvers out there, I’m an Altinay fan myself but again lots of opinions out there. Altinay have some gorgeous pipes and themed pipes, such as military if your father served.

A number of good meerschaum dealers are available to you. Altinay, Yanik, IMP, Meerschaum Market, etc.
If my kids wanted to buy me a pipe, I would want them to pick one out that they like with me in mind. I would like it more if it reminded me of them when I smoked it rather than the pipe I liked best if I were to pick it out myself. After all, I can always pick out a pipe for myself.
It’s not that hard to look at his pipes see what he smokes out of the most and get a similar shape .. or you know an amazon gift card texted to him is just as thoughtful and i am sure will mean just as much.
