Just finished watching this a little while ago and loved it. It plays heavily with elements from the original and is a direct continuation of the story started there though set decades later. The opening scene ripped my heart out and the story's climax had me on the verge of tears and whoever was responsible for the visual effects of a very particular character, they deserve a pay raise.

Took my boys to see it (5&8). We all enjoyed it. Although I hate the trope of “kids find super complicated equipment and immediately know how to use it”, I didn’t mind it in this film. It’s total fan service, but that’s not a bad thing. I can’t just can’t believe how old they are now!
