I forgot about this pipe because it was tucked away in a future projects box when last I moved. I left it in the car one day at work on one of those 90 degree Ohio late summer days with the windows rolled up. When I returned to the pipe to enjoy my DGT GLPease Renaissance on the ride home, the stem was just falling out of the shank. I got so excited to smoke it I decided that I must find some way of smoking this pipe once more before setting out to restore my old buddy. So I did what any self respecting pipe smopker with the DIY spirit would do. I ghettoed it up with a produce elastic, loaded it with a handful(it's a large bowl) of GLPease Maltese Falcon and have been smoking it DGT style

all day.
Cheers.

I have a couple of pipes with loose stems.

I use beeswax in the tenon.

It ain't perfect but it works.... quite well.
That's a good looking cross grain.

Yeah it is nice cross grain. Cross grain across the top and bottom of the shank and front and back of the bowl with birdseye on either side. It's a nice piece of wood for sure. Has always been a hot smoker and always seems to require at least one pipe cleaner for moisture during a smoke. But the pipe tastes so good that I put up with it. I just smoke it slow. It's good to load it in the morning and smoke it all day long just letting it go out and returning for DGT and DGTed DGT etc. It seems to love English/Balkans. It DEARLY loved Dunhill Nightcap, London Mixture, MM 965, EMP, Margate, Renaissance...It was my go to English/Balkan pipe for a long time. Glad to see him making a come back.

Ha ha ha. I considered tape but didn't want to leave any residue on the pipe. It is now in the process of being fixed so that it can drop it's ghetto status and rise back to regular rotation.
