Do you have one?

Which model?

What do you like about it?

What could use improvement?

I've been interested in one for years to supplement bike rally camping activities and other recreational pursuits.

Although I kept my power during the Great Texas Blizzard of '21, it caused me to refocus on having one.

I just picked up a Generac IQ2000 I found a good deal on. I may eventually want something larger for strictly home base usage but this should handle all of my recreational needs an a few of the emergency ones.

Share your informed (and, of course, uninformed) opinions.

I have a Snapper 3500-WT generator that I use during hurricane season. I put an electric box on the outside wall wired to a duplicate one on the inside wall. That way I can plug the generator in and not have to have a window or door open that could allow an intruder. Being heat sensitive due to meds., I can't be without A/C.
Wouldn't have a home without a generator.

I don't remember which model, but it had a 5000 rating. My family home on an island off the north shore of Long Island was the gardener's cottage for the J. P. Morgan estate. It had a porous foundation and a well with a sump pump in the basement. During hurricanes we ( my brothers and I) had to bucket out the water in the sump well when the power was off.
We eventually got a gas generator to empty the sump well and to run a few lights and the refrigerator.
I heartily recommend you get one! Sorry, but the cost was in trade for some photographic darkroom equipment that my late father owned.

I have a generac xg 10,000E. Just got it this year so not much experience with it so far. Plan to install a dedicated line back to the fuse panel to power the house. Will use one of those block off plates that ensure your line in power is off so you don’t push power back to the grid.

I have a portable gasoline Genrtac 8000 watt generator connected to a transfer switch panel. Fortunately, it’s seldom used. If I were to do it again, then I would’ve elected a natural gas set-up.

Got a 16kw generac with 500 gallon inground propane tank. Installed it this past fall. Works great especially with the auto transfer switch. We lost power several times this winter and it ran without any problems.

I recently purchased a Westinghouse iGen 2500 for our small travel trailer.
I haven't had an opportunity to use it yet.

Installed a 17 KW air cooled Kohlet Nat Gas generator, had to buy a larger Nat gas meter from provider, cost 800$, automatic switching. Kohlet Gens are the ones hospitals and many businesss use. When I had my Foretravel Motor home I saw many small Honda Gen, very quiet and reliable. My Kohlet has not given me any troubles since I installed it in 2004. I priced them and they have a 20kw air cooled for 5600$.

I don't usually need a generator here in KC. Maybe once every 7-8 years it would be nice and then just for a few days. So, it makes little sense for me to have one.
