GBD "Chairman" Unique?

Here's a Unique grade that I've never heard of previously. Well out of my price range (and interest). I did ask the seller for photos of the nomenclature. An interesting piece of GBD history.

I saw that today as I was scrolling through wondering what I can get for my 508. I say sell a kidney and buy it. It looks like a mantel piece.

I really like how the pipe was cut from the stand it rests on. The nodule on the base is interesting. I would have liked to see the corresponding depression on the bottom of the pipe. Great design features.

Not my tastes either but it is a pretty interesting pipe. I didn't notice at first that the pipe was sitting on a stand...thought it was all one piece. ::

It's an interesting piece, but not especially appealing to me. Part of a tobacco pipe's charm is its compactness and portability, not with every pipe, but most. This one is designed to park in one place and seems to invite the smoker to stay put with it. That seems kind of limiting. I think I could get a number of pipes I'd greatly prefer for the same money. But it was entertaining to see it.

The seller did put up a picture showing the nomenclataure. It is indeed stamped "Chairman".

If memory serves, this pipe was offered about 12- 15 months ago without any interest.

Al, not that I particularly like some free hand pipes this one has real class! The kind of pipe that sits on your desk right out in plain view!
