This isn't meant to be a full review, more just a commentary on this unique and fantastic pipe tobacco.

First point, this may be the hardest most bricklike plug I've smoked. My sample was quite dry which may have something to do with that. But that said, no dry time was required before smoking.

Once I got a couple bowls full pried off the plug and loaded it up, wow this may also be the strongest pipe tobacco I have ever smoked. Quite a few rough edges on the initial light.

But after getting through that initial roughness, dark plug settled down into the richest, coolest, sweet/Savoury bowl I've ever put in a pipe. As it smoked down it settles down into this smooth and very unique flavour that I've never had before. The description lists it as a VaBur but the flavour is certainly unique, one I've never had before. Absolutely delicious!

One final point, this plug certainly has a healthy dose of nicotine. I'm not usually affected by any pipe tobacco and almost never get a nic hit but in a group 4ish sized bowl of this gave me my first nicotine headache. Lesson learned, smaller bowls from here on out!

If you are interested in trying something quite unique, a real old school pipe tobacco, give Gawith and Hoggarts Dark Plug a try, it is a truly fantastic pipe tobacco!

I think I may try carving off a piece of this Dark Plug and chewing it. I've chewed the Gawith twists and they are quite good that way.

Yeah, Dark Plug is stout stuff in all ways. Enjoyable when nothing else will suffice.

I’ve not tried chewing it. I suspect it could take a while to get the taste off of one’s palate.

If you have an affinity for Lakeland blends, the Scented version is even better in my opinion.

I wonder how your particular sample of the plug was stored before it got to you, usually I find Gawith plugs to be on the moister side of the spectrum.

I will definitely try the scented when I get a chance.

Most of the flakes, twists etc I've got from Gawith's have been on the moist side but not unbearably so. I don't really bother with too much dry time anymore
