Gaddesen pipe shape, I'd never heard of it before. I have one, a Cassano, but I thought of it as a briar Calabash. I'll see if I can run down the origins of the name. ???

Invicta has always kind of interpreted shapes in their own way. It looks more like a rhodesian of sorts to me? It's a nice looking pipe with it's round shank and rounded cap.

There is a slight spelling error - it should be Gaddesden. I don't know where the name comes from but there is Gaddesden House in Hertfordshire which is a stones throw from the Invicta workshop

Rather like the Blakemar Briars Cairngorm, I think it is perhaps more a model name than a particular shape name. Many UK manufacturers appear to do this or so I have observed.

When I was using Google on this, one site (sorry I didn't make a note of which or get a link) said the Gaddesden was a variation of the bulldog. Shapes are illusive, so I won't analyze the shape too much. It seems to be specifically an English shape, and I think it has a nice compact balance.

Looks like a play on the rhodesian to me.

Where in Herts? I skimmed their website, and if I read correctly, their main shop is in Bedfordshire. Some nice looking models.

"They call this a Rhodesian, whereas we Yankees would call it a bent bulldog."
Perhaps I have spent too much time on this forum as I too would say that was a bent bulldog

Sorry JPMCWJR, I haven't worked out how to do the the "quote" thing on here yet.
Gaddesden House (HP2 6EZ) is Next to Great Gaddesden, Herts, about 10 miles south of Invicta at Stanbridge, Beds LU7 9JF.
Hope this answers your question.

Thank you, Bob. Spent a year in Hertford at school, eons ago.
For quoting, a few ways to do it, but I copy what I want, then hit the "quote" button in compose, paste in, and hit the same button again to close quote.

Many thanks JPMCWJR!
My father was at Dunstable School in the '50's (I went to a Welsh School). I used to do a bit of business in Hertford, nice town, horrendous traffic problem the last time I was there.
