After watching Per Jenson’s interview it became apparent to me that the website tobaccoreviews.com is now owned by STG and whilst I don’t use it all the time I find it a very valuable resource about blends that we have lost and varietals of tobacco that have gone the way of the Dodo. This website brings no commercial value to STG and given their desire for trimming, well this valuable historic resource may well be under threat. Is there a way to archive things like this in the public domain and if so is it lawful to do so?

You might check the wayback machine at the Internet Archive to see if it has been preserved there.

TR has gone through several changes of ownership in recent years. Perhaps someone will buy it from STG if STG doesn't want to continue hosting it.

No real loss other than the forum attached to it. Plenty of reviews on multiple forums and if the FDA does finally go through with the deeming, there'll be no new blends to add while discontinuing all of the blends not offered up for certification made after 2007.

Actually, the descriptions and reviews often have more information on the components and blending than the tin. Lots of valuable info there. Would hate to lose it.

There is some very good information, such as jiminks’ histories of certain blends, like Three Nuns as well as some reviewers.
But mostly the site is amateur reviews of middling to execrable quality, lacking analysis. They’re opinion pieces, hit pieces, or hobbyists fun times.
Would it be a shame to lose it? For those who use it as a resource, yes.
Perhaps as a tool for studying the behaviors of a group of people with a shared quaint obsession, yes.

A forum like this is far more useful for behavioral science.

Though I’ve had an account with TR for many years, I honestly wouldn’t miss it, but others will miss it terribly.

So, hopefully TR will continue on.

I wouldn't put it past STG to nuke it considering it documents all the blends they've ruined after acquisition.

The component lists there have often been inaccurate.
Yep and there's a few where there's much dispute over whether a blend has certain components or not. The matter of whether OGS is a VaPer or straight VA has been been settled for years but there's other ones remaining like whether LJ Peretti Cuban Mixture has cigar leaf or not despite the name heavily implying it does.
