Fujima Pipes

This is a pipe that my son bought for me last year: my question—it has a metal basket in the bowl, not wood mersh. Is the pipe any good or did my son get taken at the pipe shop where he got it?

I would be careful with that one. You have any idea what it's made with? And a pipe with a screen or mesh is not an authentic way to do it. It works I'm sure but not something you want.

Hang that baby on the wall, or keep it somewhere safe if your son asks about it. Pick up a pipe from one of our sponsors, or from a shop near by you.

Looking at the grain on the rim, and the stem extension, I'd say it is NOT briar.
I would keep that as a souvenir as it was a well-intentioned gift from your son.
I wouldn't smoke it

If it has a metal lined bowl it's probably fine to smoke but it likely won't be a good experience:

Local dirt mall sells these. Plastic-made Chinese junk, it appears. Would not smoke one.

Bought a Fujima corn cob pipe when Lisbon Street News closed down. Poorly finished, some of the cobs on the board still had curled shavings attached partly inside the bowl. It smokes OK, but nothing special.

I didn't even know Fujima (sounds Japanese, but it most certainly IS a Chinese company) made anything other than cobs until I ran across this Thread.

If it can't be cleaned, I would worry about health problems. Eventually it will probably clog up and can't be smoked anyway. You should put it away before it becomes a problem.
