Hatred is a strong word. Let's use abhorrence.
I bought a used Baraccini pipe on eBay for a few bucks. Smelled like a chemically induced pseudo fruit, like that bad overpowering "air freshener" smell in the bathroom at the mall.
Did the salt treatment. Did the coffee grounds thing. Smell diminished, but not gone. Loaded it up and had military grade chemical burns on my tongue after 3 puffs. Said, "Screw it." and wrote off the $10 loss.
Fast forward to a week ago, I scored two "like new" Savinelli pipes on eBay for a great price. Opened my postal prize and got bitch-slapped by the same putrid aroma, heavy from both pipes. WTF? The briar is hardly charred. How did they screw up such fine pipes so quickly?
Salt treated both yesterday. Just emptied and rinsed. Still Middleton's from hell. Grrrr...
What else can I do?
Help me, Obi Wan Kenobe. You're my only hope.....

Well, yeah, there's that.
But my question, more specifically, is what to do with the pipes I have...
Thanks.

Whatever you do, don't torture yourself with them. Pack them up nicely and send them to me :D
Seriously though, I'm no expert. I happily smoke (very lightly cased) aromatics and burleys in all my pipes interchangeably.
Sorry

Middleton's? Which Middleton's is it? The only products I've smoked of theirs are Prince Albert, Carter Hall, and Middleton's Apple, none of which seem to ghost my pipes. Do they make any fruity goopers?

I don't know WHAT they actually smoked in them. I just grabbed that name out of the air based on my remembrance of the cherry smell.
I didn't even know they made other stuff, TBH.

Edit: Fruity Goopers, sounds like a GREAT Alt-Rock band name! :nana:

Oh, yeah. I completely forgot about Middleton's Cherry! That shit will ghost a pipe like nobody's business.

"Pseudo-fruit" should be the term of the year.
When a pipe gets ghosted, I leave some Prince Albert in it for a few hours, then smoke it slow but let it get a little warm a couple times. This seems to drive off some of the worst ghosts.

Yes....flashback to Saturday morning cartoons and tooth enamel rotting cereals.
Ahhh, the good ol' days!
So burley bomb the pipes into submission. Got it.
