So, I have a few fruit trees on my property. I’m considering making my own out of some cuts. With this post I’d like to see any pipes made of fruit wood. If you got em…post em and smoke em!😉 Also let me know the good and the bad.

This Ropp cherry wood arrived today
Sadly Ropp is no longer in business

@TheIronMonkey has several, including one that could double as a weapon 😁

I had one years ago which I gave away.
Remorse made me get this replacement

It’s a rustic looking pipe with very thick walls which will never get hot
I’ll use it for aromatic blends

I have a couple of olive wood pipes. (Not a fruit wood, I know)

I love olive wood grain.
Again thick walls make for cool smokers
The wood darkens with use.
And no, I do not get an olive taste with mine.

Unfortunately I have no experience with pear or apple wood pipes

I have seen lemon wood pipes offered by one or two Italian makers occasionally .

Chapuis-Comoy took over Ropp in 1991 and makes Ropp and Chacom pipes in Saint-Claude.

Really wish I had an olive tree! That’s a beautiful pipe, sir! And I like the rustic look and utility of that Ropp. Thank ya for the reply. Enjoy your aromatics!

As far as I know olives are a fruit, so olive wood pipes should be considered to be fruitwood pipes. As pictured below I have one Ropp cherry wood pipe, a Golden Gate Ukrainian pear wood pipe, and a Rattray's olive wood pipe. They are less expensive as a rule compared to a quality briar pipe, and all smoke just as well as a briar, but would probably not be as durable or last as long if smoked heavily, which they are not. I would not shy away from smoking pipes that are made from these kind of woods as they add an interesting variety to the pipes we can smoke.

Those are some beautiful pipes! I was wondering about the durability. Sounds like they’d have plenty of life in em though. Appreciate the info pics, sir!

If you don't torch or burn them by smoking hot, there is no reason why they won't last.
I don't allow a thick cake to form. I maintain a thin, hard layer on all my wood pipes.
I smoked my first cherry wood regularly for over 10 years with absolutely no issues.

I have read that fruit woods being softer than briar require more care.
I can only comment on my own experience with cherry and olive woods.

I’ve got apricot wood available to me. I reckon I’ll give it a go. Sounds like fun.🤷🏻‍♂️ It makes for a great steak, I know that for certain!😁

I've never had a fruitwood pipe. Something else to add to the list.
I have pipes made of different materials just out of curiosity.
They are fun to have.
And cobs and cherry woods don't cost much.
Even less if you make them yourself from salvaged wood.

To tell the truth, they smoke pretty much the same after they are broken in.
If blindfolded, I don't think I'd be able to one from another by taste.
