A family member gifted me with a bag of 4 Aces Regular tobacco, a sort of generic

of Virginia and burley leaf, and I was surprised on trying it that it is pretty good. No bite,

and plenty of flavor, though mild, and seemingly entirely suitable for mixing with a little

Cavendish, Perique, Latakia, or Turkish, at whim. It's fairly dry and burns evenly but fast.

It seems to have only modest nicotine. Unlike some generics, not to be avoided. I wouldn't

have bought it for myself, but it backs up my cellar and gives me a longer range in case of

disruptions in the tobacco market. Has anyone else tried 4 Aces Regular?

I've tried it but never in a pipe but rather only as an RYO tobacco. It was okay but I'm not particularly tempted to rush out and buy a bag at the local cig store.

The big ziploc plastic bag describes this as 4 Aces Pipe Tobacco, and it may be cut just a tad big for RYO,

but maybe it's used for both. No, I wouldn't have bought it for myself, and that's why I was surprised that

it's not a bad pipe smoke. I do see PC carries it, along with much else.

Most bagged RYO blends are labeled "Pipe Tobacco". Years back they changed the cut of cigarette tobacco a little bit and started calling it pipe tobacco to slide out from under the greatly increased taxes on RYO blends. Didn't fool the feds for long. That action is now causing the pipe world grief it could do without.
