Found Pipe

A couple of friends of mine just moved into a new cabin out in the mountains and this pipe was in a drawer. Looks cheap but I cleaned the stem and had a smoke. She smoked pretty nice. Any ideas of what this is. What kind of wood?

Looks like a Missouri Meershchaum hardwood.

Yes, but the filter looked pretty rough so I took it out. That was probably a rookie move. Is it ok to smoke it without the filter?

There are no rules. If it works for you, it's good

I smoke all of my Dr.G without their filter. It's your pipe smoke it how you danm well please!

Filters are a matter of preference. Most prefer no filter, but its up to you
