This new pipe smoker's first few questions:
Are there such things as "flake pipes", meaning a pipe shapes and sizes that are good/better for smoking flake tobacco than other shapes sizes?
If the answer is "yes", what are those characteristics? e.g., is a smallish bowl better, narrow but tall? Something like 3/4"

wide bowl by 1.5" high? billiards, pots, dublins? bent or straight?
Lastly, what are some good or recommended examples of a flake pipe?
Thanks in advance,

-Wayne

alright ill start my answer by saying yes and no. a lot oof people believe that is all personal based because a flake is just a cut of toby.
if you like to rub out your flake the bowl could be any size. i am a fan of fold and stuff so i like bigger bowls for my flake. i also lie bent pipes but even more so for flake because of the length of the smoke.
i like nording pipes they are cheap yet quality and tend to have large bowls

I'll echo marc above, but I'll also add that your dimensions of 3/4 x 1.5 are pretty much what my favorite flake pipes have. The bowls that work best for me also have a conical bottom.
Experiment and enjoy the search for what works for you!

It sort of depends on whether you rub it out or fold and stuff. If you fold and stuff a smaller pipe with a deep bowel is easier, but you can do it with a pig pipe. As mentioned above if you rub it out you can use any pipe. Flake can be strong and when you fold and stuff it burns slowly. For these reasons a lot of people like smaller pipes for flake. Personally, I only consider the type of tobacco (Virgina, latakia, burley, etc) not the curing process for which pipe I choose and I don't even do that all the time. I am of the motto smoke the pipe you want with the tobacco you want. :puffy:

Ok... I like or more correctly say that I have better luck with flakes when folded and stuffed in bowls that I would have trouble getting the tip of my little finger in. And, generally conical in the shape of the bowl.

I am with most on the smaller pipe for flakes, I use nothing but the fold n stuff method and when you smoke a flake in this way they last longer than if you rub it out so you dont need a large pipe. For me I can smoke a single flake for around an hour if smoked slow and steady, so a large bowled pipe would just take forever. Now this is all just my method and opinion and not in any way a guide line, this is just how I enjoy my flakes.
