looking for recommendations for a first VaPer blend to try. got my eyes on some Escudo Navy Deluxe but interested to hear everyones take on what youd recommend for my first blend. Wanna know what worked for you or what you would not recommend trying. ive been told to perhaps ease into it w a lower percentage of perique. Thanks in advance!

I’m a big fan of VaPers. Some of my favourites are Escudo and Solani 633 Virginia Flake with Perique. Orlik Golden Sliced is said to contain a mild touch of Perique.

The perique tends to add a bit of a tingle in the back of your throat and some pepperiness that works very nicely with the Virginia tobaccos.

I think Escudo is a great way to start, or also with Stokkebye Luxury Bullseye Flake too, which is kinda of like Escudo light. Then I'd start exploring my favorites- GL Pease Telegraph Hill and Stratford, Hearth and Home Anniversary Kake and Viprati, and Savinelli Doblone d' Oro.

Another vote for Escudo from me. It will introduce you to everything that’s good about Vapers!

+1 vote for Orlik Golden Sliced & Savinelli Doblone D'oro.

Orlik is what got me to fall in love with Va's & VaPer's and how I learned to dry them out and smoke them slowly, I would deffo recommend starting with that one.

After that, though it can be hard to find I would also recommend Samuel Gawith's Cabbies Mixture, it's really balanced and to me, it seems to be as if you took my favorite qualities from Orlik and Doblone and stuck them together in one tobacco, really enjoyable.

Happy smoking!

I agree with others, you can't go wrong with Escudo, but I find that for a beginner blend Peter Stokebbye Luxury Navy Flake is good and the price is lower then Escudo.

Samuel Gawith St. James Flake tops my list of VA/Pers, followed by:
McConnell Scottish Cake
GL Pease Triple Play
GL Pease Fillmore
Samuel Gawith Cabbie’s Mixture

For me, all VA/Pers, & VA’s, are significantly better when aged.

I'm still waiting for MacBaren to release a HH VA/PER.
Then that would be the one I would recommend!
In the meanwhile, there's Dunhill (er, Peterson) Elizabethan Mixture, well at least
once Peterson makes it available.

+1 for Viprati. Good stuff.

Russ Oullette's Perique series is on sale for $7 a tin right now (half price). It would be a good way to experience some of the subtle differences perique has to offer.

The GP11 is out of stock but the other 3 are available.

Have you tried the HH Acadian Perique? It's a GREAT VA/PER by MacBaren under their premum HH line.. I highly recommend it! Some classify it as a VaKyPer but still, a great blend and no bite even if you abuse it a little.

I don’t wish to start a panic, but are these going to be discontinued?

Hahaha, no, not that I am aware, sorry, bad phrasing. I just meant that they are blends that are often "out of stock" and only drop every so often. At this current moment they are both (relatively) easy to find as compared to "usual"

I just did a search at TobaccoReviews for 4 star VaPers that returned 62 results out of a possible 203. You'll go broke sampling all of them, but the suggestions made here, so far, seem pretty sound, in my experience.
