My first tin of OG came in the mail yesterday. I've had HOTW, which I certainly liked. But what I loved about OG (and what I was not prepared for) was its sweetness. It's a great, mild Virginia that tastes like it has a faint coating of sugar. Or was I imagining this? It is also a bit less 'grassy' than HOTW, and I'm finding I enjoy Virginias that are softer, sweeter, and a less hay-like. So OG certainly has the edge for my taste, and it caused me to temporarily forget about my burleys.
My preferred flavor profile for Vs is finally taking shape, and I'll be trying Capstan Blue next.

I recommend if you try Capstan Blue to put some in a jar for a long while or to keep an unopened tin cellaring. I'm starting to really understand how Virginias age and among the many I smoke I think that Capstan Blue is going to age in a most exquisite manner!

futureman, I think you will really enjoy the Capstan. I am not a fan of the real strong hay like or grassy notes in many Virginia's and the Capstan has none of those to my tastes.
I smoke Va, Vaper and Vabur flakes exclusively and have about 29 blends in my rotation and cellar. Here is a list of some of my favorites that are readily available.
Fribourg & Treyer Cut Virginia Plug- Va flake

Dunhill Flake-Va flake

Solani 660 Silver Flake -Virginia/Kentucky

Solani 633- Virginia/Perique

Astleys no 109- Va Flake

Rotary Navy Cut-Va Flake topped with a tad of rum

Samuel Gawith Best Brown Flake- Va flake
I used to try smoking Va's from Rattrays but I have an aversion to red Virginia's and cannot smoke them, love the flavor but it is like acid on my tongue.

I to like Old Gawrie. It has just right amount of sweetness and is low in vitamin N. Somewhere I heard that there is just a wee bit of perique in Old Gawrie. However, I like vapers and could not taste any perique. You may want to try McClelland's St. James Woods if you like sweet virginas without a bite. St. James Woods is a vaper with sweetness and low vitamin N. My favorite smoke.

Thanks for the recommendations, gentlemen. I do love both Dunhill Flake and SG Best Brown.
Sadly, I have little tolerance for perique-heavy (or even medium) blends. The Rattray blends have just the right amount for me. Is St. James Woods heavy on the perique?

I would like to join in the chorus of praises for Old Gowrie. A fine blend it is, with a nice side stream and a nap afterwards.
