Yes pretty heavy for a pipe.
I will have to look up what others are using for wood besides Briar. I do have a lot of Maple available, Black Walnut, Ebony, Mahogany and Rosewood ... I think pipes have been made out of those woods before -according to Pipedia.

If you painted it red and yellow and wrote Mummert on the bottom, you could sell it for $600. :)
