I picked up a Jacono Pawn Checkmate on SP a few months ago and have really been enjoying it. It is very well made and it a nice sitter to boot. Will post pics when I figure out how.

My first-ever "high grade" hand made pipe was a Jocono picked up at a smoke shop in Austin, Texas back in 1985. I smoked it all the time. My second one was purchased from McCranie's in 1999. Those two pipes remain among my favorites to this day. Because Tonino's family owns a briar mill in Italy, he gets the pick of the litter regarding the wood, and I think that is one reason his pipes smoke so well. His attention to detail with the fit/finish/drilling certainly contributes as well.
After reading philipa4's post, I've decided that it is about time I began a hunt for my 3rd Jacono!

A recent purchase, a pipe marked McCranie UK. Now I knew both Bill Taylor, and Tonino Jacono made pipes for McCranie, so what did I have here? I figured the best way to solve the mystery was...to call McCranie's! The gentleman I spoke to understood exactly what I was describing. He told me the stummmels and stems were done in Italy by Tonino Jacono, rusticated and unfinished. They were then sent to the UK, where Bill Taylor sand blasted over the rustication, and did the staining and final finishing. So an international joint venture! The fellow said they were sold by McCranie's until about ten years ago, retailing for $150.

A very well made pipe, with excellent fit and finish, and a great smoker!

Wow that is really cool @dmcmtk. For $150 retail it's even better, since that is a beauty.
I think Tonino does a super job and especially at the retail price point his pieces are at.
Thanks for all the kind comments guys.

@dmcmtk that is a pretty rare shape for the collaboration McCranie pipes. I collect them and do not have that shape in my collection.
@Pipestud, I am looking for a McCranie Marches should you run across one.
