First Corncob....

I had to go get a CC since what i thought was a corncob turns out to be a MM Hardwood, yeah it was the first pipe i ever bought and just thought it was a smoothed out CC lol, after all it says corncob on the sticker on bottom lol.
So i made a trip to town to get a corncob, and they still had plenty of the MM Hardwoods but NO MM corncobs. They had a whole cardboard full of some other type of corncob so i grabed the best looking one of those. Only to find out the mouthpiece was stuck! and sideways.

So i stuck it in the freezer for a bit to no avail. So i thought i would gently start pulling and a bit of twist and then the whole thing came out of the cob!

Just a small dab of glue on the bottom of the stem(?) So...I polished the mouth piece a bit and got it all straight, then put a dab of Wood Glue on the part that goes into the bowl, making sure no glue is inside the bowl,
Now im waiting on it to dry up, so I can give it a whirl. After all the talk of corncobs on pipe forums, i just had to give it a try, and i wasnt about to drive all the way back to town (we live out in the boonies lol) just for a 3dollar pipe lol.
Anyway just chatting it up a bit, and if you fellas think its a bad idea to have glued it back together and think ill get sick....please speak up.

I haven't had a cob in a looong time. Think I'll pick one up this weekend too. As to your repair, I think you'll be fine once the glue cures.

cobs make good knock around pipes. I keep one in the truck, one in the tool box on the tractor.... you get the idea. It's easier to have the tobacco on hand when it's usually in a pouch on my left hip. LOL

i have a few cobs. some hackerts and aristacob. great pipes smoke them a lot while bunny hunting.

I think that once you get used to using cobs you'll be glad they are a part of your stable.... :D

Just smoked my first one a couple of days ago. I was impressed at how good it smoked. There was a slight "cob" flavor at first but I think it will fade with time. I will probably keep one on hand from here on out.

I'm biased towards the cob because I haven't smoked with anything else, but if you have the real deal Missouri Meerschaums you shouldn't have any problems - a good, reliable, inexpensive smoking pipe. Order some off Aristocob if you can't find any locally, the owner Scott only charges shipping for the first pipe. Buy multiple pipes, you still pay the same S&H charge. A very good deal for me up here in Canada. I just placed an order for 12 to have on hand. Don't let this bad experience with a knock-off get you down, I've really enjoyed smoking with them.

I've got a couple of different M&M cobs I routinely smoke from. I tell you, they are some reliable smokes that is for sure. And relatively maintenance free...just load and smoke..repeat as necessary.

I've only smoked my new cob once and it was a great smoke! Shockingly, of all the pipes that I presently have, 4 total--the cob has by for the best draw. I will probably smoke it today!!! 8)

Cobs are the perfect mate to Burley. And will schmoke well with any other blend.
http://www.walkerbriarworks.com has replacement and acrylic stems that have a better feel than the nylon stems that cobs usually come with.

Well folks....I am sorry to say i DO NOT like smoking the cobb lol. Its weird though, I like they WAY it smokes. It stays cool, and man keeping it lit is no problem at all. I like the tiny little hole that is in the bowl, I like the way the tobacco packs in this cob, but i cant taste anything from my tobacco!
I do get a taste that I cant describe, maybe its the cob taste that Unclearthur was talking about, (wow up until typing your name i thought it was UN CLEAR ARTHUR Lol)
I enjoy the tobacco much better out of my briars. Maybe there is something im doing wrong with this cob?

Bogie, you're probably not doing anything "wrong", you are just developing your pipe "preferences". And the wood glue will probably not make you "sick", altho' the smell of Elmer's glue has always turned my stomach (a sour milk smell to me). After it dries, it can't be smelled.
I do like cobs (M-M the only brand I've tried). They do have very open draws and smoke cool and dry.

It takes all kinds, and you probably just might not be a cob smoker. Come back to a Missouri Meerschaum at another time and then you can say with complete certainty it's not for you. I haven't used a briar so I'm in the same boat.

Bogie, that is probably the "cob" taste you are getting... Suffer through a few more bowls and I think you will notice that the cob taste will go away! Don't give up just yet!
