I've searched for this one for nearly seven years. A few 2nd's line shape 256 pipes were listed last year, and they ended up going for only slightly less than this real deal, a 1920s to 1938 "Old Bruyere finish pipe.
The bowl is solid, so this one will get regular (but careful) use.

Very nice Al. Not to pick nits, but the COM description that best matches your pipe is,
Made in England
This is stamped in a circle with “MADE” at the top, “IN” in the middle, and “ENGLAND” forming the bottom of the circle. This can be seen on a Cecil as early as 1910 and on an Old Bruyere of 1921 and more frequent from the 1930s. It can also appear as “MADE” arched, “IN” below, and “ENGLAND” arched the other way. These stamps are in an oval rugby-ball shape rather than a circle round shape.

I'm glad you found one you've been looking for Al. That's always a great feeling, and great job on the restoration as usual. :puffy:

You really unleashed some lavish grain on that one. I like that compact interpretation of an author.

I actually like the cut of the 256 better than my Ashfords/ dhills. $15 (France) 2nd picked up in May. Fun little pipe
