I am smoking pipes for years and never used a filter.

How do I use a filter in a pipe?

Hello, Yankl. Welcome to the forum.
You need a pipe designed to accept a filter and the appropriate sized filter. Put the filter in the stem before assembling the pipe, then smoke away. Toss the filter when you clean the pipe.
