I have three of my deceased father's pipes that I am trying to refurbish and give to my three sons as Christmas gifts. An E.A. Carey, a Seville Luctie and a Lorenzo Lorsan Sigma. The Lucite has some pretty noticeable voids in the briar that have been filled in the past. I was wondering if it would be too difficult to pick out the old filler with some dental tools and replace it with something else. I was thinking that black epoxy might blend in better with the grain and be less noticeable when refinished.

What are your thoughts on removing the old filler and the best thing to replace it with, if I do remove it.

Thank you in advance for your input.
