I am fairly new to pipes and by suggestion have tried Lanes 1Q and Shortcut to Mushrooms from just for him. Both are very flavorful but not to strong for starting out. Hell try em all, everybodys tastes are different, thats what is cool about pipe smoking, it's the search for the perfect blend.

Pipes and cigars has a great sampler called 'stand by me'. Its the first one I bought and was glad I did. Look it over.

Well I started off with some Mark Twain from Brigham but quickly moved towards Brigham Balkan which is now my standard.

But I don't know if those are available outside of Canada but Brigham is starting to market their pipes to the American market so perhaps their tobaccos will make it as well.
Recently I got my hands on some Sir Walter Raleigh which I am enjoying. It honestly reminds me of Solani's Aged Burley Flake. It's also a drug store brand so it's cheap to just try out. Billy Budd from Cornell & Diehl has also been found to be tasty to me. It's a powerful smell and taste but underneath it all there are great complexities in the after taste.

I'm a new smoker and only tried about 4 blends but i would recommend trying Lane's 1Q and some Mac Barens 7 Seas Royal. Also some Dan's Tobacco Sweet Vanilla Honeydew.

I started out with Peterson's Sherlock Holmes and am now revisiting it. Highly recommended as an easy to smoke blend.

I would have to echo the 1Q call as a starter in the aro department. As for the English I would look into the Hearth and Home Line of Tobaccos offered by Pipesand cigars.com. If you are looking for a Medium punch English I would suggest 10 to midnight, and if you want to jump in head first Larry's Blend is a must try. If you are looking for a straight Virginia Taste go with Jack Knife Plug by Pease.
All in all there is a wonderful world of tobaccos out there so have fun and experiament away!

I just called Brian Levine who is the U.S. contact for Brigham. He says we can expect the Brigham tobacco that's made by Altadis to show up stateside in the next six months. It will take longer for those blends made in Germany. Maybe next year.

Sad how all us Canadians are getting excited for Brigham blends to become available in the U.S. so we can actually afford them...
I will suggest picking up a tin of Dunhill EMP, it really opened my eyes to the world of Orientals. Peterson makes some wonderful aromatics, I particularly like University Flake, although the ribbon cuts I've tried are damn tasty too.

I’m partial to straight VA blends, and my current favorite is Peterson’s University Flake. It’s a pure tobacco taste of VA & Burley with just a hint of a plum topping. Medium to strong in the vitamin N dept.
