While I was painting the house I started thinking (always dangerous) about famous pipe smokers. If this subject has already been discussed I apologise. Here are a few that I've thought of:
Albert Einstein, Basil Rathbone, Bing Crosby, Hugh Hefner, Fred MacMurray, Mark Twain, Douglas MacArthur, Dwight Eisenhower.
Other than MacArthur (corn cob) I don't know what type of pipes were smoked by these people. Feel free to add to the list.

Great lists! We all forgot the extrodinary woman, Greta Garbo.

I really enjoyed the thread on famous people's tobacco.

Now, for one step furthur, what type of pipes did they smoke?

Composer/Conductor/Arranger Henry Mancini belongs on the list. Mancini favored Savinelli pipes after receiving one as a gift from Bing Crosby.

I know he was mentioned in Kashmir's almighty list, but I'd like to pay specific homage to Konrad Lorenz, the quite epic animal behavioural scientist of the 1970's, who's breakthroughs bagged him a Nobel Prize. I had to do a paper on evolution of animal behaviour a few years ago in university and at the time I researched him thoroughly, and here I am now, talking about him in a pipe forum which I never would have guessed at the time. When I heard the terms ''famous pipe smokers'' he's one of the first that came to mind
