Hi Guys

Came into a Falcon pipe and was wondering about replacement bowls and mouthpieces, does one fit all or for older pipes do you need a specialist, the number on the pipe is FD8 and found it in a local junk shop, looks pretty old so will probably need a good clean and maybe another mouthpiece, any advice appreciated, would maybe like a bigger bowl if they are available for this model.

Thanks again

Wiz

Falcon pipes are designed with non-removable mouth pieces with the exception of the Falcon International version. Most online dealers who sell Falcon pipes offer the larger Falcon Classic bowls. Make sure you let the bowl cool down some before you remove it, as recommended by Falcon. Continuance removable of the bowl while hot can damage the threads of the bowl. Maybe this can help you: http://www.pipesmokerforum.com/forum/showthread.php?806-Some-Notes-on-Falcon-Pipes

I love my Falcons. I have a few that still need to be cleaned up (estate pipes) and I intend to make my own bowls too. New bowls can be had or made that use an o-ring instead of threads. This extends the possibilities endlessly. My meerschaum bowl (from ashdigger) is a delight too.

Be careful, Falcons are addictive.

My sister got it from a junk shop for me only cost 2 or 3 pounds, over all it doesn't look in bad condition but i will give it a good clean before i try it. I have seen the rings for sale while trawling through ebay and wondered what they were. I still have a lot to learn regarding pipes so if i sound stupid it's probably because i am lol.

You can make your own rings.. Take a basic wood pencil wrap a fluffy pipe around it and snip a straight line up the pencil. Takes 10 or 15 minutes to make a couple of hundred.
BTW, has anyone found the chimney bowls in the US?

Ugly and awkward to my eye, but those who smoke them have only good things to say. Cheap, effective pipes.

Would someone please measure the ID/OD/height of a chimney bowl? I would like to produce some for myself and the Falcon lovers here.

Yes, wiz, that does help, thank you.
And on the mouthpiece, the metal tube goes from the base of the pipe, up into the mouthpiece. Consider it one piece. A pipe cleaner will keep it clean, cleaner than a briar pipe, IMO. No problems here with ordinary pipe cleaners either. I did have a problem on a used pipe, but that was caused by the previous owner(s) not cleaning the pipe properly. After I got it CLEAN, it is fine, no problems.

Looking forward to trying the Falcon but still waiting for my pipe cleaners to arrive, i have the Falcon which is untried and 3 cobs and a pear wood pipe that need cleaning, they were supposed to arrive Thursday but still not here, with no local shops and unable to take a trip to the city i am kinda stuck in limbo waiting for them. @nevadablue it's a shame your in the states because i would have ordered one of your home made pots :)

Ken, how are you going to cut the thread for your bowls? I'm pretty sure I read somewhere they use a non-standard thread.
Also, for some reason certain models do indeed have a removable stem whereas others are firmly fixed in place. Why they did this is anyone's guess. The one I'm looking at now is a bent FD9 and that has a removable stem.

Jay.
