I thought it was because the tobacco blenders ate so many cheeseburgers and fries. But now... ah-ha!

If Latakia tasted even somewhat like Ketchup instead of burnt wood and charcoal soaked in turpentine I might possibly enjoy Latakia blends. But, it doesn't and I... don't.

Ok there Madman just so you are very aware, I've had to set down my pipe, (which went out) , get out of my comfortable chair, trip over the dog and go to the fridge to check my bottle of Heinz Ketchup. I have since gotten a piece of paper, wrote your screen name down onto it and subsequently, drew a line through it!
I'll be watching you, lol.

Latakia does not taste like ketchup, I have experienced this problem only from one manufacturer and it is not C&D. I also have a problem with it and I cannot explain it. McClelland Pipe Tobacco is the only Company that I experienced the Ketchup flavor and I do not like it. But, I have not experienced this with any other pipe tobacco manufacturer. I can't explain it other than to say I do not like it. However, many of their blends are great! Just because my "own blend" is manufactured by C&D is not applicable to this discussion. I really enjoy many of McClelland Blends. But, those blends that have that "ketchup" flavor do not appeal to me.

Latakia does not taste like ketchup
The only tobacco I've heard with this attribute is the McClelland Virginias .. and only for some.
They are finding that this perception may be linked to the ability / inability

to detect Phenylthiocarbamide (PTC).
Check it out:

McClellend's doesn't taste or smell like ketchup, it smells like vinegar, as it's used for an anti-mould agent. I hate ketchup, I love McClellend's Va's and the smell. But Ketchup and vinegar are pretty different smells, I've never smelled McC's and got hints of tomato.

That's some impressive Photoshop skills you got there. You may fool some, but people (such as myself) who are Heinz Ketchup fanatics, see through your trickery. The last ingredient has always been (at least since I was little), "natural flavorings".
Settersbrace has the right idea. I'm watching you, too. LOL!

Yes gents, it's a fake! I snapped a pic at the dinner table and photoshopped the Latakia ingredient in later.

I blame my current sinus infection for my photoshop shenanigans, I haven't been able to enjoy a pipe for quite a few days because of it, so I seek other things to pass the time. :D
