I haven't thrown out any of my empty tins and the drawer they are kept in is filling quickly. I mainly keep them because it helps me remember what I have already smoked. I am going to start keeping a pipe/tobacco journal so I don't really see a point in having them around anymore. They will probably end up in the recycling. Does anybody do interesting things with their old tins or have any ideas?
What about the boxes pipes come in? These are also items that I am unsure what to do with. Keep them as storage for pipes I don't use?

Just clutter for me. All my tins go in to the trash as soon as opened, and the tobacco goes into jars.

Many people use them for storing screws, washers, picture hooks, and so on. Interestingly, it was because of the old tins in his house holding bits and pieces that we know JRR Tolkien smoked Capstan Navy Cut.

Here's about the best I've seen from an earlier thread.

Haha! That clock is hilarious. I never would have thought of that. Perhaps a bit too ambitious for me though.

You can do all sorts of fun things with tins. Filling them with ammonium nitrate fertilizer and aluminum power makes for an excellent life affirming experience when used for target practice and you have to dodge the shrapnel the explosion creates. As a bonus you find pieces of the tin on your roof, stuck in trees months after the event and you don't have to bother with pesky recycling! If you like a more sedate life style the empty tins make excellent ash trays, junk storage containers and wonderful Xmas gifts for people you hate.

The clock is really cool, but I would have to make 500+ clocks to make any impact on the level of tins that I end up with.

I was saving some for someone who came on here looking for tins last year. But, then he never returned, so I just tossed them to make room.

Besides putting things inside them, which I don't like to do, because then I grab a tin thinking it's my Escudo, and I get miles away from the house to find out that I grabbed a tin with my fishing line inside it, there just aren't many things that I find practical.

There was a member who was collecting empty tins, he wasn't even a pipe smoker, just for the tin art. He was askig members to send him the empty tins, he was even ready to pay for the shipping. Search for him.

I saved boxes and boxes of the rarest most beautiful tins just for this guy, and he never responded to my PM's nor emails. So, I chunked the boxes into the bin. I needed the room and an appeased wife.
