2 months without puffing and I read this line in a novel by Sean Parnell, which prompted me to try it, ". . . Ted Lansky’s pipe was empty. It had been that way for almost a decade, but he still had the thing jammed in his mouth most of the time, and there were days when he desperately missed the tobacco. . . ."

So, now I've jammed an empty pipe in my mouth and it's fun. Smells and tastes good. Feels good and right. And sure, I do miss the tobacco after September's stroke, but the smell and feel of my pipe is good. Happily, the right side paralysis disappeared after a short time (an hour?) and mild brain fog disappeared in a couple of weeks (90% within a few days).

Anyone else carry an empty or unlit pipe in your mouth from time to time? Perhaps putting some tobacco unlit in my pipe would smell even better??? :)

Wondering about anyone else's experiences.

Hi Macaroni, sad to hear, that you’re going to play that well known game every addict is intruded to at some point in their career. Next step might be to fill the pipe and lighten it. Nicotine addiction is a mean bastard.

I came back to smoking with pipes. In the beginning I smoked only one in the evening. Now I start again, like with cigarettes, in the morning. I’ve been so proud to quit smoking, to be able to kick that dirty habit in the ass. And I will do it again.

If you really decided not to smoke it would be better not to play the game. Just put the pipes away, maybe put all the stuff into the dump, sell it, bury them in the yard. That might give you a kind of freedom to move on to another stage of healing from the stroke. Kind regards, Oliver

I admire your fortitude. When I had to quit the pipe some years ago I didn't dare try what you've done for fear I'd be tempted to fill the thing up and light it .

Hope you start to feel better sooner rather than later.

Regards,

Jay.

Fortitude? As I read in another post just a moment ago: What answer gets an alkoholic surrounded by other alcoholics when he asks if he should get another beer?

And yes @bullet08 each of us decides when it’s over. And the attack of Japanese in Pearl Harbour was not an „over“ but the decision of the US to engage in war was the beginning to put an end to that war.

Yeah, I've done it on occasion, specially when indoors and unable to smoke. I've also done the dry sipping—pipe full of tobacco but not yet lit—tastes good.

I've read that Albert Einstein liked to clench an empty pipe after his doctor convinced him to stop smoking.

Not making a recommendation one way or the other, but congratulations on your recovery so far, @macaroni, and I hope it continues. :)

yeah since I don't smoke inside sometimes I play smoke inside. It's like many things that are fun but not quite like the real thing. There is enjoyment to it. Also sometimes especially with aromatics I'll pack the pipe and handle it like I am smoking it before actually lighting up. It's amazing how much you can taste on some blends when you do that.

All the time! I have a pipe or two in my car at all time, one in the office where I can't smoke and another by the front door for when I go out and about. Even better is when a pipe has been cleaned but hasn't been used in years. It takes on a unique scent of briar and tobacco that is very appealing.
