The Eltang Basic is a pipe on my radar for some time now and I am thinking about ordering one.

I am curious what some of you think of this pipe after a couple years of smoking one? I have searched some older threads and seems there's a lot of positive, but wanted to get some perspective after some use.

My biggest question is, how does the stem attach to the bowl? Is it epoxied in? Any issues? Also curious if the shaft contributes to a hotter or cooler smoke?

Thanks!

Various pipe makers do versions of a basic pipe -- Nording, Tsuge, others, along with Eltang. I too like the simplicity and spareness of design, but when it gets into the Eltang price range, it seems contradictory, like three hundred dollar blue jeans that were originally designed to be basic inexpensive pants for the working man.

On the other hand, I am truly impressed with the MM hardwood maple pipes that sell for around six bucks, and look like Danish modern design. That to me is basic, and they smoke well too.

However, if the Eltang pipes move your heart, go with it.

There was a recent discussion about this. Try using the Search.

But basically came down to decent overall construction but the mouth bit is where you see why it's a 'basic' - ie: bigger, chunkier.

I'm very happy with mine.
Got the rusticated version, one black and one natural.
They smoke cooler than my Stanwells and are very comfortable.

Love the minimalistic style as well, pure function with no fuss.
