I don't sell many items on eBay, the fees have just went too high. Now, they changed their payout method to sellers, from Paypal to direct to a linked checking account. This sounds good, eliminating Paypal also removes their fee. But, you still use Paypal to buy items on eBay (at least that is my primary). I suspect their new fee structure will equal or eclipse the net proceeds from selling, vs Paypal.

For 10 years, I've let my Paypal account manage my purchases, in one platform. Now, I have to move money back and forth. In our house, my wife manages our checking accounts, she's fantastic and I appreciate not having to do that task. She never asks what I buy, or how much and I like it that way. Now, I'll have to involve her in frequent transactions. It's been an increasingly rare occasion for me to sell on eBay, I guess it will become even more infrequent.

In July 2015 eBay and PayPal split into separate companies. At that time they agreed to a five year period where PayPal would remain the primary vehicle for payment of items purchased on eBay. That agreement was not renewed and expired last summer.

eBay has moved aggressively to replace PayPal’s primacy with its own managed payment system. In theory the new system is supposed to increase eBay’s profits while lowering transaction costs for both buyers and sellers. My personal guess is one of those things is more important than the other two.

Most sellers will be migrated to the new system by the end of this year, with whoever’s left being forced onto the new platform in 2022.

Yes, I have two items for sale and I was also recently asked to add my account number....

also when I place a bid, it automatically adds an amount for your commission and import TAX...but this is doubtful, I don't know how they will be able to assure the Spanish Customs that I have already paid those taxes, if I ever buy anything.

this is the current ebay

YOUR ITEM HAS BEEN SOLD, PLEASE MAKE THE DELIVERY BEFORE THREE BUSINESS DAYS

SOLD for $ 1,000

Taxes and fees $ 184.06

Total for you 815.94 USD

YOUR PAYMENT IS BEING PROCESSING, IN TWO BUSINESS DAYS, IF YOUR MONEY IS NOT WITHHELD, IT WILL BE SENT TO YOUR BANK ACCOUNT, DEPENDING ON YOUR BANK IT MAY TAKE TWO OR THREE DAYS TO RECEIVE THE MONEY

that is, 18,4% in fees and taxes, I have to ship my item in three business days, but I probably won't get paid for the item for another 5 days.

ebay is getting worse and worse... I think this will be my last experience with them.

Why would you pay taxes as the seller?

I've never sold anything on eBay but ever since I moved to Brazil I've been unable to buy anything either! I updated my delivery address details but my bank is still in Australia. I didn't think this would be a problem as I often used to order stuff and have it delivered to my (now) wife's address in London or my brother's in Bury St Edmunds.

But nope; eBay decided something was wrong and blocked my account. I have been through their s**t awful customer service process three times to confirm my identity and everytime it fails for some stupid reason (like I have to enter the code they sent to my cell phone but it gets rejected; rejected twice and they block access to unblock access - if that makes sense - for 48 hours!).

eBay are the spawn of the devil and I spit in their general direction (or is that hamsters?); anyway eBay SUCK.

Facebook Marketplace is my first option as both a buyer and a seller. It gets less traffic than eBay, but that's fine given they don't come looking for fees.

FB Marketplace is especially good for selling larger items locally. We’ve sold some baby stuff our boys have outgrown, some furniture, and an AC unit that would wild have been cost prohibitive to try to sell and ship.

Agree, not that I hate change but I hate change that isn't beneficial to me. I now have to have 3 pages open to accomplish what I used to have all on one page. I have to wait 5 -7 days for my money. I still pay for auctions via paypal so now I have to transfer money to Paypal when my balance gets low and anything I sell goes into a separate account. More work for me, more $$ for ebay. I wish someone would compete with these buffoons but the number of people buying and selling pipes on ebay is to much to pass up.
