There are a couple of ways to turn off e-mail notifications.
At the top of the thread there is the question "Add this topic to your notifications?"
You can click on the blue link to either turn it off or turn it on.
Also, you can click on your screen name below your Avatar in the Forums abd you can turn them on or off there as well.
