Hello there.

This is the first forum I have ever used. I have joined because I need to vent my disappointment to some people who , like myself, enjoy a good pipe.

I have just rec'd my 1st Dunhill pipe, a brand new group 5, Ruby bark. It is absolute rubbish, badly finished, poor quality band , and really cheap looking. My G/friend thought it was a cheap drugstore pipe !

I own various pipes, Petersons, Savinelli, Molina, Dr Plumb, cornbobs, and they are all better looking and better made.

Whats the big deal with Dunhill !

I would usually welcome you to the forum on your first post. . . but I'm baffled why you'd come right out and say that you only joined because you wanted to complain about a pipe you bought!
If you're unhappy with it -- and it doesn't sound like you've even tried to smoke it yet -- just return it where you bought it. I'm guessing they'd be happy to replace it or refund your money.

Strange first post indeed. Nevertheless, welcome to the forums, and I hope you enjoy your stay. Re: the Dunhill, if you can't return it, you're bound to get a decent price for it on eBay or Briar Bid. They have excellent resale values, and for good reason too.

Kinda funny how if I'm not paying close attention the auto-spell checker on my kindle will change the name to Dunghill.

Maybe there are now Dunhill knock-offs. This is done big-time with Rolex watches and high fashion

women's handbags, among many many other products. Maybe someone is pirating cheapie imitation

Dunhill pipes. Pipe smokers are a pretty small community, and I don't think such a scam could last

long. Dunhill's exalted prices are based on their immutable quality, so it is hard to believe they'd

compromise that.

It is possible that the OP bought a fake Dunhill off of some site or from some person. I too have never heard of a bad quality new Dunhill that was real.

Welcome to the forums!

I don't see how a substandard Dunhill could get past quality control, but lightning does strike now and then, I suppose.

I would suggest returning the pipe for an exchange if possible, or failing that, a refund.
Strange first-ever post. 8O

Hmmmmm.
Are there cheap/bad Dunhill knock-offs on the market? Sadly, this is true. It is a fallen world, into which sin has entered)
Could there be a bad genuine Dunhill out there? Sure. (Again, it is a fallen world.)
Could there be a Dunhill out there fairly described as rubbish? Well, possibly. (See fallen world, supra.)
Am I VERY interested to see a picture of this rubbish Dunhill? Yes. Yes I am.
Will I give much credence to this single post if I do NOT see a picture? No. No I will not. (Id.)

It sounds to me like you bought a fake Dunhill. There were fake Comoy's Blue Ribands floating around a few years ago.
I have heard complaints about some slipping in the quality of Dunhills, but never in over 50 years of pipe smoking heard of one described as looking like a drugstore pipe.
Where did you buy the pipe? Most sellers would accept a return if it is not smoked,

I would suggest and put forth the notion that the original poster is just a troll looking for reaction. Considering that he/she has yet to reply to any of our posts as well as being the first post...it screams troll to me.

+1, classic troll modus operandi, however, if the problem is genuine, return it and get a new one, or 5 Petersons!

I'm always amazed at how kind and accommodating we are to fellow followers of the leaf, and how our first instinct is to try and understand at least where the OP is coming from. Benefit of the doubt and all. But clearly, in this case, me thinks this thread was simply to yank our collective chain.

I'll never give up my dream of bagging a fine old, lightly used Dunhill at a yard sale for almost nothing.
