Dunhill insanity.

A while back in a thread about Dunhills I posted a "list" of the Dunhill products I have floating around my smoking room. Quite a few considering I don't smoke Dunhills. Anyway, yesterday I happened to notice one more item, an ashtray. I have 2 square ones but this one is different. I don't have a fancy camera phone and I hate to bother my wife all the time to use hers, so I looked on the web for a pic. Sure enough I found one. Ok, here's the point. This pic came from a web site where they are offering this ashtray for sale. Price is $295. I couldn't believe it. If I remember correctly I bought mine at a pipe show a few years back for $25. Based on the $295 price I can only conclude one thing. Dunhill people be crazy.

Yes, I do have one, but I wasn't insane enough to pay $295 for it. But it looks like the seller of this one thinks someone will....

I think the Bible addressed this almost two millennia ago. Matthew 7:3-5 (preferably KJV for the stately Jacobean language).

Dunhill people aren't crazy or anything like that. The guy that sold you the item probably bought it at a yard sale and from people who didn't know the value of it. Never assume you are smarter than others.

Ebay is a playground of both the innocents & the fantastical, always has been been & always will be. Best one I remember is an Ashton pipe with the seller asking £30,000 or something similar.

As of late, it seems many, many people both within and without the pipe smoking community have jumped on the Dunhill train. My guess is, much like with certain beanie babies, both someone is asking way to much and someone will pay too much.

The amount you paid for your ashtray seems like a pretty good bargain and the price being asked by the other seller seems ridiculous. It is, after all, just a cigarette ashtray.

Is it actually an ashtray produced by Dunhill, or just happens to look like one? I like when marques produce their own ancillary products. I collect leather wrapped Longchamp pipes and was fortunate enough to locate a Longchamp leather wrapped tobacco jar (shown with some of my Longchamp pipes for scale). If I was heavily into Dunhill, I’d be thrilled to get that ashtray.

No. I’m saying since everyone on this forum has their own obsession (the “beam”) it’s hypocritical to criticize someone else’s (the “mote”).
