dungeons and dragons books

my neighbor was recently throwing out some old things and asked if i wanted some of her sons old books. she gave me a bunch of d&d books of his. i kind of just want to get rid of them now that i have them lol.
anyone know what they sell for?

The ones you have a close up on date from the 70's. I can't tell their condition from here, but they go for about $20-$40 each depending on who and/or where your sell them.

It really depends on if you know some one who play rpg's.

I know a lot of guys that do but they are all broke all the time.

I say ebay. They will sell.
Yeah I played for a bit in school but realized not many chicks rpg so it was time to grow up.

On occasion I will get with the guys but the last time was 2 years ago.

I say e-bay em also. If you got em for free then you should be willing to take the risk if they sell for $5.00 lol
Put a decent amount of time on the auction to give it a chance to get noticed.
I used to play the card game Magic The Gathering in highschool but quickly lost touch as it gained popularity and so many cards were made I forgot how to play by graduation. :crying:
I still have a bunch of the cards too! haha.

With Gary Gygax dearly departing recently, they may be worth more than usual.
But look at it this way ... the new hardcover 3rd, v3.5 and 4th edition D&D books go for $30+
Those are definitely out of print. If they're in good condition, I wouldn't let them go for less than $40 each. It's one of those things where it's worth taking the time to find the right buyer.
And Ebay is the place to do it, for sure, like others have said.

Guess I ain't growed up yet. I still campaign, this one going on 7 years. 1st Edition rocks! And we have verifiable women in the party.

As for their street value, none of the ones pictured will go over $20. If you have a Deities & Demigods early printing it can fetch 4-5 times that.

I'm going to have to side with Romeowood on this one. AD&D is a pretty niche market with how complex it is, so the folks who would go for 'em are a small market and they're mostly pretty common. The 3rd (or 3.5) books you've got there are even more common. Gary Gygax passing away recently (a sad day it was) also has no bearing on the value unless they happen to be signed by him or verifiably come from his own personal collection and even then it's still a niche market.
I'm more of a 3rd or 3.5 guy myself. It's what I know and have had a lot of fun with over the years and I don't have to worry about the caster working out his angles when letting off a lightning bolt. I'm also a huge fan of Forgotten Realms. Ed Greenwood being Canadian is only a small part of it. Planescape is also pretty darn awesome. Hah actually let's just say that I love D&D. :D
If I were you I would look in to getting a game started up.

thinking about it now it would be fun to have a pipe smokers d&d session haha.

@Ich--I love the flexibility and open-ended nature of the 1st ed. rulebooks; it's more story driven and less codified. Of course, you have to have a DM you can place your faith in. I started with the Mentzer sets, which I still have a huge affinity for, but to me 1st ed is the essence of D&D. I encourage you to get a game together, throwryuken, it's great, anachronistic fun.

brother in law came over for the super bowl today, i don't know him very well because he just married my sister a few months ago. he sees my stack of books that were out because i took the pic for you guys. mentioned that he plays d&d with a few guys right around three corner from me and invited me to play. they smoke cigar while playing....
look like i have some converting to do.

Alright, you people, so what was the greatest module ever?
B2 Keep on the Borderlands for me; lots of good memories there; if you brought up the 'incident' in Cave K, Leslie would still get mad.
Desert of Desolation series was good; Tracy and Laura Hickman; lots of puzzles, which are hard to write.
Against the Cult of the Reptile God was awesome too. What could be causing the disappearances? Read the dadgum name of the module and look at the cover!
Ravenloft was great.
The Assassin's Knot was good. Look at the freaking cover! They're all there posing for a freaking picture!

G1-2-3 Against the Giants is a personal favorite--memories of my dwarven fighter riding on the back of a charmed fire giant into the climactic battle still give me that warm fuzzy feeling.

Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth was awesome too. Heck, all of the S-series were.

Any adventure I've played at conventions has been superb as well.

I agree with the S series. My DM liked to get the story a little X rated which made it much more interesting.
Alas this gnarled gnome married a witch and has not entered the relm since. Woe is the feint of heart to draw their sword and roll once more.
