Ok... So yesterday I set out some toby to let it dry a bit before I
smoked it and it worked out pretty good after an hour.
This morning there was still some I accidentally left out on the plate
so I decided to pack my mini churchwarden and smoke it on the way to work...
It just didnt taste right... Can you leave it out too long? Had the sound of dry
leaves when i packed it lol

To answer the question of leaving it out too long, I would say yes...but yes in that you could over dry it.
I think the flavor you were looking for was still there but with it being so dry it smoked hotter thus burning it off quicker.
I smoke a lot of aeros so I often leave some out to dry. When I put too much out I actually have a little jar with a pressure fit lid. I will put the extra in it and add it to the next smoke.

If you meant DGT that refers to partially smoking a bowl then coming back to it later. Unsmoked tobacco, yes you definitely can leave it out too long. How long is too long will depend on the baccy.

In either case - real DGT, which is, as mentioned, smoking part of a bowl and coming back to it - or drying a blend - it depends on the blend.

For a DGT, you need good quality tobaccos and, from what I have heard, aros do not tend to DGT well.

I rarely smoke anything that needs much drying. But again, that is all a matter of personal preference.

I agree with one exception, my beloved Stokkebye Dansk Black. I smoked half a bowl while sitting in traffic one afternoon. Pipe went out and I put it in the center console and forgot about it for about two days. When I finally remembered it, I pulled it out and thought "Ah what the hell" and lit it up. The flavor was the same but way more intense. It was like smoking pure sugar (figuratively of course ;) )
I tried it with the other aromatics I occasionally smoke..blecch!! :x

I was thinking about this just this morning, as I laid out my tobacco for the day.
I think the time definitely varies with the blend, and also how long the tin has been opened. For aros, 30 minutes improves the burn for me. Eight hours is too long for most, but I have one local house blend that is great after 24 hours.
As for DGT, I have yet to find an aro that will improve after a rest and relight. Just me, maybe.
Just keep experimenting - that's half the fun of this hobby!
