I had purchased a tub of Prince Albert tobacco that was just too dry. I thought about putting a moist paper towell in the tub for a few days to see what happened. Then I had a brain storm about a bottle of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum that I had in the cuppboard for a few years. This was just the ticket for my problem. I moistened a piece of sterile gauze with the rum, laid it on top of the tobacco, sealed it up and let it stew for a couple days. WOW..... what a wonderful surprise. More flavor and just perfect moisture, I will be doing this fron now on. I hope someone will try this to see if they like it.

I love using black spiced rum on my whole leaf blends. Bourbon is nice too, but the spiced rum adds a similar sweetness plus vanilla, molasses and of course various spices, with one simple ingredient. I just spray it on directly, sometimes before pressing plugs or stoving to add the needed moisture.

pretty much any dark or brown liquor seems to work. I bet green liquor would work too but would be more of a crap shot if it turned out good. The best part is there doesn't seem to be a blend it doesn't work with from a flavor profile. Now this next statement could be true in several contexts but the thing that's better about it then water is it adds some flavor which might be lost if the tobacco is too dry for too long.

I tend to prefer my tobacco on the dry side. I have some 1oz samples that have resided in the plastic bag for a few years and still smoke great. I find it funny when people jar a blend to retain moisture then dry it out to smoke it lol but we are all different and prefer different things. Moisture content especially, some will c9mplain when a blend is too moist and others when a blend is too dry, it really comes down to personal preference.

As you have found there are remedies to moisture issues that sometimes can increase smoking pleasure and make a blend that mich more tasty than before.
