So one of my local tobacconists just informed me that dry European snuff is not going to be imported to the US anymore, come a few months here. FDA stuff, as usual. Anybody know anything about this?

Tis true. Since the FDA has taken oversight of tobacco it is requiring manufacturers to disclose all ingredients in their products. Understandably, the Europeans are loathe to disclose proprietary information so they are taking a pass on doing business here.

Its the typical double edged sword. The Feds want to erase tobacco use in the USA under the guise of protecting children from tobacco products that smell good. In this case, mission accomplished. So now the projected tax dollars on said products will be a shortfall. Want to guess how that gap will be filled?

From what I hear, the main reason that European snuff isn't going to shipped here anymore is because of the PACT Act.
Nasal snuff was included in the PACT Act so it can not be shipped by post in the US anymore. The European snuff manufacturers know that most of the nasal snuff bought in the US is done by mail order/internet. They figure that if nobody can get it shipped to them, then nobody is going to buy it anymore and they wouldn't make any money by importing it in the US anymore.
You couple that with the FDA crap and there you have it.
