a friend asked me about the tobaccos you can buy from walgreens and such places. I have never tried any due to the reviews I have read. Im sure someone here has tried them.. let me know your thoughts

Many on this board will disagree, but I think they're generally cheap, low quality tobacco mixed with chemicals. If that's your thing, then go nuts.

This is always highly debated, but just go out and try all of them...for some people, they find their favorite is a drug store blend...everyone is so different when it comes to tobacco tastes. It's good to know that if you are traveling and want to smoke a pipe that you can go to a drug store, buy a Dr. Grabow pipe and some Captain Black and have a smile on their face.

I tried Cherry and Vanilla from Walgreens, at 1st it taste ok but in a few days it tasted like oil and I had to remove the cake and do the alcohol salt thing to get the crap out of My bowl. I will never buy that crap again, I had no luck with it.

I dont know if you can still get things like Captain Black at Walgreens, but it is one of my all day smokes. It is what I learned to smoke on and for me, for some reason, it just agrees with my chemistry. Smooth smoke, no bite, burns well, tastes good, and others around me always compliment me on the smell. Honestly, I love all varieties of Captain Black and other drugstore blends as well. I, personally, see no shame in smoking drugstore blends if that is what you prefer. Pipe smoking is one of those things that you should just enjoy the hell out of, be it the cheapest of the cheap or the most high dollar luxury latakia filled blend. Cheers!

I actually like Mixture 79, but everyone raves about the nasty perfume smell it has and how it will ghost a pipe to the point of throwing it away.

Those bags of Super Value Pipe Tobacco are hit and miss, mostly miss. I've heard good things about the Cherry Cav. and Gold Burley. I've had the Gold Burley and it's actually not too bad. Better to stick to the "brand" tobaccos such as Carter Hall and Prince Albert. And for the money, Mixture 79. Why the hell not? The world always needs new Tales of 79 Terrors. :lol:

But responding to the OP... Take ALL of those reviews with a grain of salt... a lot of salt.
Yes, so and so said this backy tasks really rich and smokey and like it is like smoking "Smokey the Bear"...
Even though you may like everything they say about it. And even say to yourself... yes i like that... AND that... AND THAT! In the end it's up to you. And Bollocks to what everyone else said about it.
Same can be said for the other side of the leaf.

I've tried Captain black White and Captain Black Royal and I like the white pack the best of the two. The Royal is a little more chocolatey and the White is more Vanilla. I just put in an order for Lane 1-Q to test against CBW. I'm going to pick up some PA next time I'm at the store. I don't care for Borkum Riff.

I would suggest you visit 4noggins.com for samples of various drug store blends. They have a ton of them in stock and you won't break the bank with getting the samples to start with. If one strikes your fancy, you know where to pick it up rather easily.
