Draught hole gap to bottom of pipe

This thread is in regard to the gap distance between the draught hole and the bottom of the pipe. Internet searches have given me a distance of 1/8", or 3.17 mm, which seems a little large. Does anyone have any information on what the gap should be? I'm asking because someone I sold a pipe to complained that it had been over reamed and the bottom of the chamber was too low. Thanks for your help.

For some makers by design it's a moisture trap for the bottom of the chamber to be lower than the draft. It doesn't bother me at all but it can be remedied with pipe mud.

I don't know precisely what's happening in your particular scenario, but the gap can vary and some people have some silly notions about what it should be. If it's flushed to the bottom it's probably going to gurgle and is more likely to get clogged.
