Are Dr. Grabow and Medico filters interchangeable? My independent pipe shop owner told me they

are pretty much the same. Also, how often do you change filters; I mean how many smokes per

filter?

Yes,they are interchangeable. I change them when the pipe starts to gurgle, usually after 6 or so bowls. I use the same pipe all day usually, and keep it burning almost constantly.

When I change the filter I also swab the shank and stem out with Q-tips and pipe cleaners.

Some change after every smoke.

I find Medico filters work better in Grabow pipes. I usually change filters after two smokes because that's when my filter is usually nasty (I'm a clencher and subsequently a drooler).

reichenbach, that's good news. I have more Medico than Grabow filters, but I'll try them both. A Forums member also recommended trying

using half a filter, so I'll try that too. I have a new Grabow Royalton bulldog, and it seems to be a nice pipe, smooth smoker. Most of my

pipes are more mid-level and upper mid-, no filters, but I like some of the old U.S. machine mades and would like to learn to use them.

Thanks for all the good advice and info folks.
