This is a pot Grabow that I picked up in a bag of pipes last year. It was one of my first restorations, and needs to be restored again soon. He's one of my favorite pipes.

I mentioned this pipe and the shape number in another post a couple weeks ago, and EJames said he'd like to see the pics.

In my clumsy restoration, the "DR GRABOW DELUXE" nomenclature was all but lost, but the "9711" shows up fine.

And a couple shots of the stinger. I think this shape dates the pipe to c 1948-1950.

What do ya think, Ed?
EDIT: Replaced a duplicate photo.

Thanks, Sam - you are exactly right on those numbers.
DE LUXE begins with 92, 97, 98 – Two Dots, Circle or Shield on shank sometimes. Series 92 = Very dark reddish wine, solid looking finish, yet undefined, possibly from 1938 or slightly later era. Series 97 = Natural Variegated Grain Finish, c1937. Series 98 = yet undefined, Dark Brown appearance? Series 99 = Dark Walnut Finish, c1937.

From RJ's Dr Grabow page.
I have read that page a dozen times, and never caught that bit of information.

Thanks, all. I've got 40-some pipes, a few of them rather expensive, but this Grabow out-smokes them all.
