Well, I don't know if any of you caught a thread I posted a week or two back, but I recently won an auction on ebay for a Dr.Grabow Unique pipe. I was informed that this pipe was quite rare and there were only a handful made in the early 60s and even less are around now. There isn't a whole lot of information floating around on this line but what I did find out, that two gents out of Sparta who carved these pipes also made some for the Kennedys and so on. The pipe itself seems to be quite a bit higher quality than the other Grabow's (at least the ones I've seen and handled). Anyways, I digress. We all know that the thread is worthless without pictures, so without further ado, the pics!

Thanks guys! I thought I sure thought it was a steal! Especially since I was over bid by quite a bit, but ebay must have hiccuped at just the right moment and it didn't accept their bid. LUCKY 8O

Smoke it or sell it for mad profit to a collector. Sometimes rarity can work to your advantage. There are many Grabow collectors out there, and if it is truly "rare" you should do yourself the favor of finding out the value.
Who knows you might be able to tansmute it into a pile of cash and get something you like even more. Would not suprise me if you could sell it for a couple hundred dollars.

Nice find !
It's a good looking pipe as is. The fact that it's rare just adds the icing to the cake.

She's a beauty for sure!
I'm curious though, you say ...

eBay does a lot of strange things, but one of them is not losing proxy bids. How do you know you were overbid but the system didn't accept it? With well over 10,000 feedback under my belt (both buying and selling) this statement has me really, really curious.

I saw the fellow I was bidding against on the DR. G collectors forum. He put in a bid that was substantially greater than mine and it still showed him as being outbid by my much more modest amount. It was within the last five minutes of the bid I think, I still won the auction. Weird stuff.

Well, I've checked out the bidding history on item ending in the last 3 digits of item 224 (to protect your privacy) and can clearly see that no higher bid was received/accepted by ebay. Having read the other guy's story over yonder, I've never seen nor heard of anything like it in all my years, except when bidding has closed and there's been a bit of a time lag in updating the page & the last bid going in just after the auction closed i.e.when one's computer is lagging but ebay's system isn't if that makes sense.
You'll see what I mean above when you get a lot more bids under your belt and think, "WTH, where's my bid???" Happens all the time to those who try to manually snipe at the very end. Either way, it was meant to be and the pipe Gods were smiling on you. May there be a lot more such wins for all of us!
