Don't Think I'd Smoke This Pipe

Lawl @ the description from the seller.
Vintage, lightly smoked estate asbestos pipe. Stamped Real Asbestos Patent no. 19963. Band is stamped EP WKC (I think). I never knew they even made asbestos pipes (instant lung cancer) From the 50s or earlier.. The patent date is 1858, which predates the American Civil War. I have seen a few vintage ads for these pipes which looked like cigars . This is the only actual one I have seen, although I have sold several thousand vintage pipes . The pipe is just over 6 inches long from bottom of bowl to end of bit. Bowl chamber diameter is just over 3/4 inch and bowl depth is just under 1 5/8 inch. Light caking in bowl. Negligible tooth wear on end of bit. Metal is slightly tarnished with age. Normal wear and tear (dings, oxidation and scratches) for an estate pipe. Nice overall shape and condition. Asbestos is actually a naturally occurring mineral. It was used in building products because when you break it it breaks in long thin narrow sheets like fibre and can be spun into fabric and many other things. It is not a danger to anyone if it is left in a whole form. It is only dangerous when made friable by somehow turning the fibers airborn. Once those fibers get in your lungs they stick there because they have a barb like a fish hook on them. Over time if you accumulate too much of it it basically clogs your lugs and you die as your body tries, unsuccessfully to cough the fibers out. I still wouldn't smoke the pipe, but I bet it wouldn't hurt you.
