So I stopped by a neighborhood head shop to check out their pipe tobacco stash and was handed a small bottle labeled "dohka". On the label it claimed to be tobacco. I did a quick Google search when I got in my car, and it was just described as a "spiced tobacco". Is this just a weird pipe tobacco? Why was it in such a small bottle? Obviously I didn't buy it. I don't even know how much it was going for. Curious if anyone has knowledge of such a thing.

Nope. But ever since vaping got so big I always wondered if (god forbid) we could put the juice on bacci for that extra nic kick? I know crazy right, but this is the stuff I think about when I get a good bowl and relax.

I seem to recall a shop owner telling me it was extremely fine ground tobacco - think powdered - to be smoked in a tiny pipe with a screen and was stupidly high in nicotine. Said it made him barf.

Not sure why he thought that would interest me since I was looking at C&D tinned tobacco, but I’m thinking that’s maybe what you encountered. I also think he said it was burley based, but honestly I wasn’t paying much attention, just remember it was a weird conversation.

You were looking at "Dokha" meaning dizzy in Arabic. It's a unique type of Arabic tobacco that is believed to originate from one of the original Orinoco strains but is a totally different type of tobacco due to select breeding and climate conditions. Although it is a type of Nicotiana Tabacum, it can reach nicotine contents up to 10%+. It's smoked out of a long, thin pipe called a medwakh. It's very different than other pipe tobaccos though. It's not fermented, aged, or flavored. That's why it keeps it's green color. The particular strain actually tastes quite nice somehow. Other strains would taste like grass clipping if not processed.
What's nice about dokha is the strong buzz called "laf raas" literally translated to head-spin. Just a hit or two is all you need. It's a great nicotine delivery system. It's quick and clean and the smell doesn't stick to the hands, hair or fabrics. It's becoming more popular in the Western world as an alternative tobacco product to cigs and other rolling tobaccos. I'm an expert on dokha and it's history and would be happy to answer any other questions you may have!

Next time I want a head spin ... uh ... no thank you.

It's different and not a nauseating buzz but It's certainly not for everyone. It's more of a niche product for people that want something different or exotic, or as a way to reduce smoking for the 2/3-pack a day folks that hate their cigarettes.

I just bought this the other day to try it out. I of course, don't know much about brands or what's good. I just asked the guy at the store.

My review... I don't get it. It didn't seem strong. Or exceptionally flavorful. And that little bottle was $30!!.

Wouldn't recommend the Nirvana line. That company's blends can be hit and miss. Some are excellent but others are garbage. That line tends to be flavored and I wouldn't trust any flavored dokha. Lower quality dokha is typically used because the flavoring masks the taste. Truth is, there are hundreds of blends of dokha out there in the Middle East with a wide range of quality. Cold, warm, and hot are the general measures of a blend.

Cold - lower nicotine, smoother on the throat. Typically made from lower leaves on the plant.
Hot - high nicotine, very strong. Spicier flavor. Made from leaves higher up on the plant.
Warm - Different blends of leaves from various parts. Warm has the largest variety of blends out there. Big Range

Not only what part of the plant is comes from but how the plant is grown. Plants that are given less water get stressed which in turn makes the whole plant produce more nicotine. Plants that are given a lot of water and fertilizer tend to mellow the whole plant out making even the top leaves smoother while retaining the nicotine level. The highest quality blends are made from leaves 70%-80% on plants that are given the perfect amount of water and ferts.

There's nothing like the cream of the crop when it comes to dokha. They take a lot of pride in their products. Those blends aren't even available outside of the Persian Gulf due to the cost. It's just not economical to buy it in bulk and try to resell it from a business stand point. Look into my user name. My dokha is very different from the Nirvana stuff. I do a sampler that can really give an idea of the range of temperature and quality.

The pipes look kinda cool. The hot sounds right up my alley. Just not sure if I'm willing to invest more into it to give it another try. If I ever stumble upon some, I will be willing though.
